Painting Classes

(Foundations, Intermediate, and Honors Proficient

Painting Foundations is designed for students with little or no experience in painting with studies of various media including acrylic, watercolor, etc.  The class will apply and research painting techniques, medium mixing, art history, and basic application processes on different surfaces. It is aligned to the North  Carolina Essential Standards for Visual Arts at the  Foundations level. 

 

Painting Intermediate is designed for students with foundational experience in painting with studies of various media including acrylic, watercolor, etc.  The class will apply and research painting techniques, medium mixing, art history, and basic application processes on different surfaces. 

Students will build upon prior knowledge attained from Foundations and  will have more concentrated study in painting techniques, the history of painting, studio, and application.

It is aligned to the North  Carolina Essential Standards for Visual Arts at the  Intermediate level. 

 

Painting Honors Proficient is designed for students who have successfully completed the standards of Painting Foundations and Painting Intermediate. Students will build upon prior knowledge attained from previous levels and  will have more concentrated study in painting techniques, the history of painting, studio, and application. It is aligned to the North  Carolina Essential Standards for Visual Arts at the  Proficient level. 

  • Students will be encouraged to be creative  and to think out of the box while making art.   Students will be provided a strong foundation in  design, drawing, art history, and vocabulary in a  teacher-structured environment. Problem solving  and decision-making are emphasized throughout each level of painting. 

  • Students should use time wisely during the 90 minute class period in order to receive maximum points for the process. Each student will be assessed on their skill level and their effort to produce quality work with an expectation of improvement throughout the semester.

  • All students are expected to maintain a portfolio of their work.

 

Art Classroom / Procedures

  1. Be in class on time. (In the classroom getting ready to work!)

  2. Use studio time appropriately.  When working independently, students should remain quiet and on task, using time wisely.

  3. Respect yourself and others: Do not touch or mess with another student’s art work or materials.

  4. Keep your hands, feet  & objects to yourself. 

  5. Cell Phones will not be allowed without Teacher Permission.
